Stone Oak, San Antonio

Where Stone Oak is...

Stone Oak occupies San Antonio's far north side: north of Loop 1604, south of Wilderness Oak, east of Blanco Road, and west of U.S. Highway 281. Addresses fall primarily in ZIP code 78258, with northern portions reaching into 78260.

The 281 and 1604 interchange is the community's front door, and it shapes daily life here more than any other single feature. San Antonio International Airport is a straight run south on 281. The North Central medical corridor and the USAA campus are both reachable without touching downtown — which, for a lot of Stone Oak households, is the entire point.

Worth knowing: locals use the name loosely. Several landmarks people call Stone Oak — including the Village at Stone Oak, Methodist Hospital Stone Oak, and Reagan High School — actually sit outside the formal master-plan boundary. It matters when you are comparing HOA obligations between two homes.

Stone Oak Is Not One Neighborhood

Stone Oak is an umbrella. Underneath it sit roughly three dozen individual neighborhoods, each with its own homeowners association, its own architecture, and its own price band.

It started with Sonterra. The five earliest subdivisions — The Gardens, Greensview, The Midlands, The Fairways, and The Woods — were all part of Sonterra and all fronted the golf course. That was deliberate: the developers routed the course partly along electric transmission easements, turning unbuildable land into frontage and giving builders a reason to come north.

Everything else grew outward from there — The Highlands of Sonterra, The Oaks of Sonterra, Cobblestone, The Canyons at Stone Oak, The Club at Stone Oak, and more.

Some are gated. Some are not. Some sit on golf frontage; others back to greenbelt or canyon. Construction spans the late 1980s through new builds, so two homes a mile apart can differ by twenty years of building standards.

If you are shopping Stone Oak, the subdivision matters far more than the ZIP code. The spread in HOA dues, lot size, age of construction, and resale behavior between neighbors is wider than most buyers expect.

What Is Your Stone Oak Home Worth Right Now?

Stone Oak values do not move as one number. A 1990s home in The Woods and a newer build in The Canyons respond to the market differently, and a golf-frontage lot in Sonterra is its own conversation entirely.

If you have owned here for a decade or more, you likely hold more equity than the headline numbers suggest. And if you are weighing a move — up, down, or out of the neighborhood — that timing question deserves a real answer rather than an automated estimate.

I will walk your street, pull the comparable sales that actually apply to your subdivision, and tell you straight what your home would bring today.
